Optically Heralded Entanglement of Superconducting Systems in Quantum Networks

Networking superconducting quantum computers is a longstanding challenge in science. The typical approach has been to cascade transducers: converting optical frequencies at the transmitter and microwave receiver. However, small microwave-optical coupling added noise have proven formidable obstacles. Instead, we propose networking via heralding end-to-end entanglement with one detected photon teleportation. This new protocol can be implemented on standard transduction hardware while providing significant performance improvements over transduction. In contrast cascaded direct transduction, our scheme absorbs low optical-microwave efficiency into step, thus breaking rate-fidelity trade-off. Moreover, this technique unifies simplifies generation between devices other physical modalities networks.
